My favorite accomplished Korean actress Park Bo Young (Melo Movie, Light Shop, Daily Dose Of Sunshine, Oh My Ghostess, film A Werewolf Boy) plays identical twins, one a city girl at heart and the other a country girl at heart, in this well produced tvN Korean drama titled Our Unwritten Seoul (2025), which is available to watch on Netflix. She turned in a fantastic dual performance as twins who were alike in appearance but not in achievements or talents. One had been a great academic student, and the other had been better at athletics. It was fun for me as her fan for many years to watch Park Bo Young bring out such different personality traits in her dual performance as the twins. The Korean title "Mijiui Seoul" has dual meanings: it can literally be translated as "Mi-Ji's Seoul" or "Unknown Seoul." The Koreans sometimes like to do that with their drama and film titles.

Their romantic screen partners in the drama were the appealing Jin Young (When My Love Blooms, When A Man Loves, Legend Of The Blue Sea), who had me in tears several times with his sensitive acting, and the amiable young Ryu Kyung Soo (Itaewon Class and film Cabriolet) who had a bit more humor to his screen personality. The supporting cast members were all wonderful, too, including many veteran actors and actresses who always bring added depth to a drama story -- although I must admit my most favorite scenes in this drama were whenever the twins had scenes together or separately. Good double exposure camera technique was there to make one actress look like identical twins talking together.

The Lawyer And The Farmer - Who Will End Up With Which Twin?

The Story:

At the center of our story are identical twin sisters Yoo Miji and Yoo Mirae (both played by Park Bo Young) who really couldn’t be more different in personality and scholastic aptitude. Those differences take them on separate journeys in life as they grow up. The serious, studious Mirae went to University in Seoul on a scholarship, later landing a coveted, well-paying corporate job at the Korea Finance Management Corporation. Miji, on the other hand, after high school graduation works part-time on a farm for a cute farmer named Han Se Jin (Ryu Kyung Soo). She had considered a career in sports, hoping to become a track star, but she ended up needing to quit that dream after a leg injury.

Without a college degree Miji is stuck taking whatever odd jobs she can find, in addition to her farm work, to earn extra money to contribute to the family bills. She does get tired of being compared frequently and unfavorably to her more accomplished twin sister Mijae who works in Seoul for a lot of money, but she still remains an upbeat person most of the time, and she still loves her sister, whom she now rarely sees anymore.

Miji still lives with their Mom, Kim Ok Hui (another great performance from veteran actress Jang Young Nam, The Crowned Clown, who also happened to play Park Bo Young's Mom before in the film A Werewolf Boy), who frequently becomes impatient with Miji's lack of personal ambition; their Dad had passed away when they were younger so there hadn't been a strong male presence in their lives for quite awhile. Mom Ok Hui had supported her daughters while also being worried about her own mother, the girls' Grandma, who is still alive but has mental issues related to old age, Kang Wol Sun (veteran actress Cha Mi Kyung). Most of Grandma's time now is spent in hospital.

Although Mirae has the more lucrative job in the city she isn't really at peace with her hectic city lifestyle. She has frequent battles with her obnoxious boss named Choi Tae Gwan (Jung Seung Gil). She finds some comfort in a friend at work who had also come from her hometown, Attorney Lee Ho Su (Jin Young).

He had a tragic childhood, losing his Dad (Kim Joo Hun) in a terrible car accident when he was a young teenager; he had been in the vehicle but had survived. He ended up being raised by a step-mother named Yeom Bun Hong (Kim Sun Young, Crash Landing On You). Step-Mom loved him in her own way but sometimes had troubles showing it, which leads to some misunderstandings between them, especially when Ho Su begins to experience some hearing problem issues related to the car accident he was in, and she couldn't understand why he was limiting her access to him so much of the time.

Twin Sisters: One Has A Good Paying Job In The City But Isn't Happy
The Other Lives In The Country With Hardly Any Money But Is Happy
Which Lifestyle Would You Choose?

Then a twist of fate brings the twins together after a long separation and they make a secret pact to switch places: Miji agrees to pretend to be Mirae and go to Seoul to work in the corporate world, and vice versa: Mirae will try out country life again and see if she likes it better! They will stay in touch by cell and help each other fool everyone around them as to their true identities. They change hairstyles and clothing styles to help their camouflage succeed. Inexplicably they begin to discover new talents within themselves, and new friends and surprising love lives as well!

How soon anyone involved with them, including family members, friends, and co-workers, will discover their switched roles is partly what makes Our Unwritten Seoul so much fun to watch. I highly recommend this series. It's one of the best I've seen so far in this year of 2025. Lee Kang wrote this screenplay and it was at times so deep that I was shocked. I was expecting more of a romantic comedy but its melodrama kept me teary-eyed too. The same author wrote Youth Of May (2021) which was an excellent drama too. The director was the brilliant Park Shin Woo who directed some of the best dramas ever made in South Korea, including Queen Of Ambition, Angel Eyes, Hyde Jekyll and I, Jealousy Incarnate, Encounter, and It's Okay To Not Be Okay. Watch it on Netflix and fall in love with it just like I did.
