The Two Jangs (Jang Hyuk, Chuno, Thank You, Beautiful Mind, Wok Of Love, Voice, Midas, Robber, and Jang Nara, One More Happy Ending, My Love Patzzi, I Remember You, The Last Empress) are reunited in this melo-humorous, surreal marital / family drama, Family: The Unbreakable Bond (2023) after several other of their pairings together over two decades, including The Successful Story Of A Bright Girl, Fated To Love You, and Old Goodbye. They obviously enjoy working together in K-dramas and just about recognize each other as extended family in real life.

You don't see too many popular Korean drama main couples in series reuniting in future works, even after years have gone by, for whatever reason (I wish that wasn't so!). The Two Jangs are an exception, and a delightful one at that! I couldn't watch this series when it premiered in 2023, couldn't find it anywhere; I had to wait until 2025 when I noticed that Disney+ / HULU had finally added it to their roster of excellent K-dramas. (I read this delay was for unspecified legal reasons). Of course I immediately turned it on and started giggling like a school girl in episode one. Jang Hyuk is a true expert at both comedy and melodrama. His slapstick antics in this series, especially in the early episodes, are worth the price of admission. :)

The Story:

Secretive, formidable middle aged man Kwon Do Hoon (Jang Hyuk) is married to pretty housewife Kang Yoo Ra (Jang Na Ra) and they have a cute daughter named Kwon Min Seo (Shin Su A). He is a Secret Agent for the NIS (National Intelligence Service) and a veteran sniper with a quick and highly accurate shot record. During the day he disguises himself as an ordinary employee for a stock trading company. Even his loving wife Kang Yoo Ra believes he holds an ordinary office job and has no idea about his secretive life. At first.

Do Hoon is super busy with his double job, so he is unable to spend as much time with Yoo Ra as he would like; this of course adds some stress to their marriage. However, he loves his wife more than life itself, and that endears him to his wife even when she gets impatient with him.

Meanwhile, wife and mother Yoo Ra, who always dreamed of having a perfect family, begins to wonder if she should branch out to other interests besides her Domestic Goddess role. She does possess her own secret that no one knows about, not even her husband Do Hoon, having to deal with the difficult teen years she spent in Thailand. Can she deal with it on her own, or will she require help to deal with the repercussions on her life that last to the present day?

When they plan a 10 year marriage anniversary celebration trip to Thailand together and suddenly Do Hoon has schedule problems, Yoo Ra knows the disruptions in their once happily married life are due to a gorgeous female manager at Do Hoon's trading company named Oh Cheon Ryeon (Chae Jung An, When A Man Loves, Yong Pal, Coffee Prince, Cain and Abel). Yoo Ra doesn't know at first that Cheon Ryeon is also his boss at the NIH!. She angrily decides to go on the anniversary trip alone, after arranging care for their daughter while she's away. This decision upsets Do Hoon mightily. When she returns from the trip she is still icy cold to her husband and he has to make several unique sacrifices to win back her good graces.

Then a suspicious, quietly revengeful man named Jo Tae Gu (Kim Nam Hee, Search: WWW, Goblin) appears in Kwon Do Hoon's and Kang Yoo Ra's lives, as a sudden uninvited guest in their family gatherings. His pleasant appearance -- yet unpleasant activities -- further shakes their marital life to its core.

To confront all their problems, and restore peace to the family unit, Do Hoon and Yoo Ra will just HAVE to join forces in more ways than one to deal with their jealous rivals effectively, and put all past secrets to rest so they can start anew.

If you are fascinated by a story showing the ups and downs of a passionate marriage, in which both husband and wife keep secrets from one another (and the consequences of such), and if you desire to see if the relationship will heal by the end then definitely check out Family: The Unbreakable Bond on Disney+ / HULU.

Personally I was wondering the whole time if the writer would kill Jang Hyuk's character off by the end, as they did in his most famous drama Chuno, since he was a sniper and responsible for the deaths of others -- even if they were bad guys. I don't give end spoilers out in the vast majority of my reviews so you will have to watch and discover by yourselves what happens with his character and the character of his wife. ;) However, any drama with these two thespians together is worth the watch. They have such fantastic onscreen chemistry together, always! Very simpatico, often very ironically funny. Enjoy!
